Gaudí’s works
We never thought that a church could inspire such admiration and emotion in our teenagers. Mission accomplished with the Sagrada Familia! Antoni Gaudí’s greatest masterpiece has touched their hearts. The audio tour (available in French) allows you to appreciate the grandeur of this unfinished building. In fact, all of Gaudí’s works that we visited in Barcelona (Park Güell, Casa Batlló, Palau Güell and La Pedrera) fascinated them and awakened their interest in architecture.
The beaches
Because teenagers need some downtime between more active visits, the ‘city beach’ option that Barcelona offers is a boon. We can alternate days when their brains are more active with days when they can relax, sipping coconut water and lounging on a deck chair between dips in the Mediterranean.
Just minutes from the city centre, a long stretch of beaches stretches for 4.5km along the coast. The beaches closest to the city and accessible by metro are San Sebastian and Barceloneta, where you’ll also find cool little restaurants.
FC Barcelona
Europe’s (and the world’s) most famous football team opens the doors to its legendary stadium with the Camp Nou Experience. You can walk through the tunnel from the changing rooms to the pitch and even admire the European Cups won by the club. It’s a must for sports enthusiasts and football fans, but it’s definitely a place of pilgrimage for Barça fans.
The Joan Miró Museum
Located in Montjuïc Park, the Joan Miró Foundation is an art centre dedicated to the work of this Catalan painter. The building was designed to honour and enhance the presentation of Miró’s works, and it does so beautifully. The tour (an audio guide is available in French) helps to understand the complexity and originality of Miró’s work, which at first glance may seem simplistic and naive. This “museum experience” (it’s much more than a museum visit!) unanimously delights teenagers!
