When we think of the Dominican Republic, we think of white-sand beaches, palm trees and turquoise waters. Viva Miches by Wyndham is exactly that. If you’re looking to enjoy postcard-perfect views while getting away from the hustle and bustle of Punta Cana, Miches is definitely worth putting on your radar.
Located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, in a relatively untouched region home to Viva Miches by Wyndham. Set directly along the beautiful Playa Esmeralda, the resort offers a particularly appealing mix of nature, comfort and activities.
I recently stayed at Viva Miches by Wyndham, and from the moment I arrived, I felt like I had stepped into a truly inviting tropical setting. Lush vegetation surrounds the resort and is seamlessly integrated into its common areas.
The warm welcome from the staff sets the tone right away.
A fresh juice during check-in.
Followed by a bottle of champagne and a large plate of tropical fruits waiting in my room: the best way to start a vacation!
The resort is modern and recently built, with spacious rooms and contemporary design. Depending on the room category, you can enjoy ocean views or even have your own private plunge pool. On the property, you’ll find several à la carte restaurants, a buffet, bars, Café Miches, a spa, a gym, tennis and pickleball courts, as well as a large pool and dedicated spaces for children.
After a few days at the resort, here are the three things that stood out to me the most.

A beach that invites you to slow down
The first thing that’s hard to miss is the resort’s beach: Playa Esmeralda. Stretching for several kilometres alongside the resort, it offers a much more peaceful setting than some of the busier beaches around Punta Cana. Turquoise waters, soft sand and lush vegetation along the shoreline create the kind of scenery that makes you want to spend the entire day reading by the water.
During my stay, the beach was completely free of sargassum and the water was particularly warm and enjoyable for swimming.
Of course, conditions can vary depending on the time of year, but I was able to fully enjoy the ocean… Whether I was swimming, snorkelling, paddleboarding, walking along the shore or relaxing on a beach chair.
There’s also a cute section of the beach with hammocks and shaded areas for those looking to enjoy a little more peace and quiet. And one of my favourite little touches? The tiki bar right on the beach, serving smoothies and fresh juices throughout the day.
Entertainment that actually lives up to the hype
I had heard a lot about Viva Miches by Wyndham’s entertainment team before my stay, so I was especially excited to experience it for myself. And it definitely lived up to the hype!
From the moment I arrived, it was clear that entertainment is a big part of the Viva Resorts by Wyndham experience.
The daily programming offers plenty of variety, allowing guests to be as active as they want. Yoga, aqua fitness, kayaking, dance lessons, paddleboarding… there’s always something fun to do! My favourite time of day? Without a doubt, the late-morning activities with the entertainment team. They’re so much fun to hang out with, and their energy is contagious.
And the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. After dinner, you can catch one of the resort’s daily shows, with different performances throughout the week. I loved the Lion King show, while the Dominican Night was another highlight and a must-see. For those who want to keep the night going, there’s also evening entertainment. Including a silent disco!
Modern comfort surrounded by nature

The third thing that stood out to me was the contrast between the resort’s modern amenities and its lush natural surroundings.
Recently built, Viva Miches by Wyndham features contemporary architecture and bright, inviting spaces. The rooms are spacious and modern, with different categories available, including options with ocean views and, in some cases, private plunge pools.
The gym deserves a special mention too. It was probably one of my favourite spaces at the resort. The equipment is brand new, and large windows overlook the ocean and palm trees. It’s not every day that working out comes with that kind of view.
The resort also features several pools, including a rooftop pool accessible to Viva members, as well as a large main pool with plenty of loungers for guests.
When it comes to dining, the variety of à la carte restaurants and the buffet make it easy to switch things up throughout your stay. Between activities, Café Miches and the various bars are also perfect for grabbing a coffee, a refreshing drink or, in my case, a piña colada.
Who is Viva Miches by Wyndham for?
That’s probably one of the resort’s greatest strengths: it doesn’t cater to just one type of traveller.
Now, the main thing to keep in mind is the location. Viva Miches by Wyndham is approximately 90 kilometres from Punta Cana International Airport, so the transfer takes a little longer than it would to a resort located directly in the Punta Cana tourist area. But that extra distance is also part of what makes the setting so peaceful, with a less urbanized beach and a quieter atmosphere.
Couples will appreciate the ocean-view rooms, dinner dates and everything the spa has to offer.
Groups of friends can take advantage of the activities, sports and evening entertainment.
Families have access to dedicated kids’ programming, excursions and plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.
Viva Miches by Wyndham works particularly well for travellers who want a range of options and would rather not stick to just one program.
And sometimes, the best vacations are the ones where you eventually forget what you had planned to do.
