Martinique, a jewel of the Caribbean, offers much more than its beautiful beaches. This French island is an ideal destination for families seeking an escape, cultural discoveries, and shared moments of relaxation—all at their own pace. From Tartane to Sainte-Anne and Les Anses d’Arlet… Follow us on this Martinique with kids travel journal where local charm, lush nature, and favorite spots set the rhythm for each day.
Tartane: waves, nature, and chic relaxation

On the Caravelle Peninsula, the small village of Tartane captivates with its authentic atmosphere and vibrant surf culture. First step: settle in at French Coco, a charming hotel with subtle refinement and a relaxed vibe.
Once the whole family is comfortable, head out to explore the surrounding beautiful beaches, especially Anse l’Étang, which is perfect for lovers of golden sand and swimming. A little further north, the rocks form barriers, creating small, translucent natural pools ideal for the little ones. Want to ride the waves? Several local surf schools offer lessons adapted for both adults and children.
You can also enjoy a lovely walk suitable for the younger ones, lasting one to two hours depending on stops, leading to Dubuc Castle, the Caravelle lighthouse, and Baie du Trésor beach. Pack a picnic in the morning with delicious products from the bakeries Au Pain d’à Côté and Au Soleil Levain, or grab a bite at Le Phare restaurant, whose sea view is well worth it.
Our best surprise in the area? Without a doubt, the Cocoa Beach restaurant, which serves sensational food with your feet in the sand in a simple and friendly atmosphere. Cod fritters, knife-cut beef tartare, tuna ceviche with leche de tigre, Tahitian-style fish—everything is incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. This spot turned out to be a highlight of our trip to Martinique with kids.
Sainte-Anne: postcard-perfect family vacation

In the south of the island, Sainte-Anne unfolds its charms with effortless simplicity. The village is quaint and lively, bathed in that golden light that makes you want to linger on a terrace or take a short walk. It’s a real postcard come to life!
Salines Beach, with its coconut trees, turquoise water, and fine sand, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Arrive early, as the beach is, of course, very popular. For lunch, we feasted at Chez Suzette, a simple and tasty spot just a stone’s throw from the beach, serving chicken colombo, grilled dorado, and delicious smoked chicken. In the evening, head back to the village and embrace elegance at Le M restaurant, located by the sea and offering a refined gastronomic experience in a relaxed setting.
Another great option for families visiting near Sainte-Anne is a day of pure relaxation at Club Med Les Boucaniers. Book your day on DayPass and enjoy a stress-free day thanks to the luxury and comfort of the all-inclusive experience, while the children have fun in complete safety.
Les Anses d’Arlet: Is it worth going?

In Les Anses d’Arlet, Creole charm takes hold from the very first steps. It’s a peaceful and typically Martinican area where colorful houses, wooden churches, and sublime beaches blend together. Settle in comfortably at Le Panoramic hotel, nestled in the heart of a lush garden overlooking Fort de France Bay. It has a beautiful swimming pool that will undoubtedly delight the little ones, and the view is simply magnificent.
For beaches, Grande Anse (head to the very south for a wilder feel) and Petite Anse d’Arlet are ideal for family relaxation. Our favorite? The tiny (and popular) Anse Dufour. With its crystal-clear water, it’s an exceptional snorkeling spot. Multicolored fish, turtles, corals—it’s a real natural aquarium! A tip: arrive early.
For lunch, Chez Charlo restaurant delights with generous and authentic Martinican cuisine, while L’Escale, with its large bohemian chic terrace, brightened our evenings with its relaxed atmosphere and creative “bistronomic” menu.
What are the best things to do in Martinique with kids?

- Not far from the capital, visit the Balata Garden, a true tropical haven suspended between sky and nature, where children will love walking on the tree-top walkways within the lush vegetation. This tropical forest experience is one of the best activities for the whole family.
- A little further north, towards Saint-Pierre, the Martinique Zoo is located in the ruins of an old colonial plantation. This park combines a shaded walk with the discovery of tropical animals.
- For culture, the historic museum La Savane des Esclaves in Les Trois-Îlets sensitively and pedagogically recounts the history of slavery in Martinique. It’s a must-see.
- Sea and freedom lovers can also opt for a boat excursion, either to observe the dolphins off the coast of Le Carbet or to explore the secret coves of the southern coast.
- In Le Marin, the Aquabulle offers a unique outing aboard a glass-bottom boat, perfect for admiring the seabed and its fascinating creatures without getting wet, especially for the little ones.
- Finally, in Les Trois-Îlets or Génipa (Rivière-Salée), embark on a kayak trip in the mangrove to discover a fascinating ecosystem.
