Join us on some of Europe’s most beautiful road trips, on journeys where the miles on the dashboard pale in comparison to the extraordinary scenery and unforgettable experiences ahead.
Ring of Kerry, Ireland
The south-west of Ireland is home to an idyllic 200km loop that is often described as having the most picturesque sights on the Emerald Isle. Complete the loop around the Iveragh Peninsula and you will stumble upon unexpected beaches flanked by towering cliffs jutting out into the wild Atlantic Ocean, as well as quaint fishing villages where time seems to have stood still.
Highlands, Scotland
In all of Britain, only the west of Scotland can offer such sweeping vistas! These barren, rugged landscapes are dotted with historic castles, some of which seem to be haunted by the ghosts of Scotland’s troubled past, and distilleries that are certainly not a nuisance to drive through.
Dolomites, Italy
Spanning three regions of northern Italy, this is one of the country’s most scenic routes. Very different from what most people think of as a road trip in Italy, this is an alpine journey between peaks that have been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. These majestic massifs and their dizzying peaks are heaven on earth for enthusiastic trekkers; the number of outdoor excursions in this area is almost endless.
Trollstigen, Norway
With its many 10° gradients, challenging hairpin bends and, above all, mountainous scenery, there’s no doubt that the Troll Road is one of Europe’s most impressive road trips. Along the way, visitors will find thunderous waterfalls, majestic fjords and deep valleys carved by the last Ice Age. Truly a sight for sore eyes.
Romantic Road, Germany
Spanning the whole of Bavaria and Baden Württemberg, the aptly named Romantic Road is a treat for castles and history buffs. The 350-kilometre journey traces southern Germany’s long history and passes through a dozen or so towns and cities, each with a different claim to fame. Whatever the time of year, chances are there will be some sort of festival or fair along the way, so make the most of it by mingling with the locals and soaking up some German culture!
Amalfi Coast, Italy
Hire a convertible, let your hair down, don your sunglasses and head to southern Italy for an epic road trip along the coast. Enjoy the dolce vita with daily gelato, pasta and spritz, while taking in some of Italy’s most stunning views. The journey is dotted with dramatic coastline with rugged cliffs, whitewashed villages and hundreds of quiet beaches… the textbook definition of a dream road trip.
