In 2025, treat yourself to some sunshine (and mojitos) with Air Transat. We’ve been travelling the South for 37 years… we know our stuff! Whether you’re looking for a luxurious hideaway, a family-friendly paradise or an improvised beachfront office, there’s a vacation package for you.

When is the best time to travel to Sun destinations?

Generally speaking, conditions in the south are ideal from December to April. Temperatures are comfortable and the weather is sunny. However, if you don’t mind the possibility of a few tropical showers, the low season between May and November often comes with lower prices—and you’re always protected by Transat’s hurricane policy, which will make your journey a little simpler should Mother Nature’s antics become erratic.
Where is the best place to go down South with Air Transat?
In 2025, Air Transat will serve more than 20 Sun destinations with direct flights departing from Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Ottawa, London, Halifax and Moncton—to everything from the Caribbean and Central America to South America and Florida.
And with over 360 all-inclusive hotels to choose from, you won’t be able to say “I can’t find anything that suits me”!
Of course, the usual all-inclusive favourites—Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba—come to mind first. But some lesser-known destinations such as Colombia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Panama, El Salvador or even Saint Martin are well worth exploring. They stand out as excellent alternatives for independent travel, away from the typical all-inclusive atmosphere.
When should you book a trip to the South — and is it better to book an all-inclusive package at the last minute to get the best deal?

Whether you’re travelling independently or on an all-inclusive package, there are several ways to answer the question of when is the best time to book a trip to the South. Our opinion? It is really up to you! To get the best deals, whatever your departure date, sign up to our newsletter for early access to sales and discounts throughout the year.
Last-minute vacation deals can be worthwhile if you have a flexible schedule. The trade-off, however, is that you’ll have to be prepared for a more limited choice—especially if you’re travelling with a group or family. On the other hand, if your dates are locked in (e.g. Thanksgiving or spring break), it’s best to book as far in advance as possible to get the best fares.
Finally, note that Transat offers up to $500 off certain South guided tours for two people if you book 60 days in advance.
How much does a trip to the South cost from Canada and where is the cheapest place to book an all-inclusive vacation?
The price depends mainly on the season, departure city, return flights, extras such as Option Plus or additional baggage, and the comfort level of the hotel. While Cuba and some parts of the Dominican Republic, such as Puerto Plata, tend to be the cheapest options, there’s always a good deal to be had in Mexico and other parts of the Caribbean.
Note that Transat offers a wide range of South vacation packages, from charming 3-star options for smaller budgets to luxurious 5-star resorts worthy of architecture magazines, complete with private butler service. Excursions can also add to the total cost.
Ultimately, your budget, travel style and personal preferences will dictate the cost of your trip.
