Panama City: 4 Great Places to Get a Drink

Share the article

Casco Viejo, Panama City’s historic district, once had a notorious reputation due to pirate attacks and bandit activity. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, the area has since undergone a significant transformation. Major investments by the Panamanian government and the National Institute of Culture in 2010 helped restore its former glory. Now, Casco Viejo showcases a mix of styles, where ruins meet cobbled streets and colonial or neoclassical buildings. You’ll also find some Art Deco and Afro-Colonial architectural gems, reflecting Panama’s diverse cultural heritage. We had the chance to explore the nightlife scene in Casco Viejo and experience some of the top Panama City bars.

Vue sur Panama City du bar Tantalo

Trendy and vibrant, the rooftop terrace at Tantalo Hotel offers stunning views of Casco Viejo and Panama City. This rooftop bar is a hotspot, always bustling with a young, energetic crowd, mostly locals. Guests dance to live DJ sets every night of the week, creating a lively atmosphere. The chic, modern design features comfortable seating and an open layout with panoramic city views.

The cocktail menu, crafted by talented mixologist Juan Pablo (nicknamed Pachanga), is a highlight. The Watermelon Mojito, known for its refreshing flavor, is particularly popular. The bar also offers a variety of creative cocktails made with fresh, local ingredients. Tantalo’s rooftop is the place to see and be seen, making it essential for experiencing Casco Viejo’s vibrant nightlife.

If there’s one hotel to stay at in Casco Viejo, it’s the American Trade Hotel. Part of the Ace Hotel family, this luxurious property is known for its sophisticated design and top-notch amenities. The hotel houses Danilo’s Jazz Club, founded by renowned Panamanian jazz pianist and composer Danilo Perez. This world-class venue offers an intimate, cozy atmosphere with excellent acoustics, perfect for jazz lovers.

The club accommodates up to 50 people, creating a setting where guests can truly appreciate the music. It regularly hosts performances by both international stars and local artists, making it a cultural hotspot in Casco Viejo. Plush seating, ambient lighting, and impeccable service enhance the experience, making a night at Danilo’s Jazz Club a must for Panama City visitors.

A beach-style bar at Finca del Mar

Petite terrasse charmante du restaurant Finca Del Mar

Just steps from Plaza de Francia, Finca del Mar is a charming bar-restaurant run by a gruff yet friendly Frenchman. It offers a relaxed, holiday-like atmosphere, perfect for unwinding. Designed to feel like a beach resort, it features several outdoor areas for comfort and leisure. The bar has rocking seats where guests can sway gently while enjoying their drinks. Colorful, comfortable sofas provide ample seating for groups or solo visitors.

A large wooden table is ideal for groups wanting to share a meal or a few drinks. A small, glassed-in veranda offers a cozy place to relax. The menu is simple, but the charm of the place more than makes up for it. As the sun sets, the atmosphere becomes magical, with soft lighting and the sound of the ocean in the background. Sipping a cold Atlas beer at sunset is an experience not to be missed. Time seems to slow down in this enchanting spot.

In Panama City, the heat can quickly become unbearable. To escape, you can either retreat to the icy air conditioning or take a seat on the perfectly shaded and lush terrace of Las Clementinas Bistro. This green oasis is the perfect place to refresh yourself and enjoy a fresh salad at lunchtime. The Bistro’s terrace is beautifully decorated with vibrant plants and comfortable seating, creating a tranquil environment where you can relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

The menu at Las Clementinas Bistro offers a variety of fresh, locally sourced dishes with an emphasis on healthy and tasty options. We loved it so much that we came back for dinner by the light of small lanterns. The ambience at night is simply magical, with twinkling lights and the soft glow of lanterns creating a romantic and intimate atmosphere. The combination of delicious food, excellent service and beautiful surroundings made our dining experience at Las Clementinas Bistro a real highlight of our trip.
