Whether you’re lounging on the idyllic beaches of the Caribbean, surfing the waves of the Mexican coast or strolling through the historic streets of Europe, which are slowly coming into bloom, early spring is ideal for a memorable getaway. Travelling in April means taking full advantage of the in-between seasons, with pleasant but not yet sweltering weather, fewer crowds and often more affordable prices… seductive, isn’t it?

From the turquoise waters of the Dominican Republic to the flower-filled parks of London, via the picturesque villages of the Algarve or Mexico, there’s no shortage of options to satisfy every travel whim.

Discover our suggestions for unforgettable sun-soaked holidays this April.

Cancún and the Yucatán Peninsula

Why not leave the all-inclusives behind and explore the Yucatán Peninsula in a different way? With average daily high temperatures of around 28°C (83°F), April’s weather is ideal for discovering this mythical region, where history and natural landscapes blend harmoniously.

Take to the road less travelled towards Mérida, the cultural capital of Yucatán, where colonial architecture rubs shoulders with colourful markets. Campeche, with its UNESCO World Heritage-listed ramparts, is an ideal place to step back in time. For nature lovers, the cenotes (natural pools with crystal-clear waters) are a must. Make sure you check out the ones around Valladolid, a charming town full of charm.

History buffs will be drawn to the pyramids of Chichén Itzá and Uxmal, which are must-sees in the Yucatán Peninsula and across Mexico. And if you’re after some quiet time, the peninsula’s beaches, away from the crowds, are a great place to chill in the sun this April.

Martinique — where to go in April for warm weather?

In April, Martinique is a little slice of paradise and natural beauty. Enjoy the sweet spot that is the end of the high season with quieter beaches, smaller crowds of visitors, and lower prices, far from the hustle and bustle of winter holidays and spring break. With its varied beaches of golden or black sand along the Caribbean Sea, historic rum distilleries, and charming villages, the island offers the perfect mix of culture and relaxation.

For an unforgettable hike, explore Mount Pelée, or wander through the Balata Gardens, where local flora is at its most breathtaking.

London — where is the best destination to visit in April?

Come early April, London slowly wakes up from its winter slumber. People start smiling again, the terraces come alive and the capital’s air is filled with a new energy. After months of gloom, Londoners are grabbing any excuse to get outdoors, whether it’s for a picnic in the parks or a stroll along the River Thames. Spring is indeed in full swing, and arguably the best time for travellers to visit the British capital.

It’s also the month when we celebrate the feast of St George, the patron saint of England. There are parades, shows and local entertainment in the capital and the pretty villages of Buckinghamshire and Kent.

Spring flowers transform the royal gardens into havens of peace, while the pubs welcome lovers of open-air pints.

Faro — what place has the best weather in April in Europe?

Faro, in Portugal’s Algarve region, is perfect for travellers looking for those blissful first warm days of the year, with average high temperatures of 20°C (68°F). Although the Atlantic Ocean water remains cool, it’s invigorating, and the spring sunshine offers a well-deserved dose of vitamin D after the winter. It’s a great way to start your transition to summer!

You can stroll along the cobbled streets of the old town, where the terraced cafés are the perfect spot for a break and to try some local cuisine. The Ria Formosa nature park, just a few minutes from Faro, is an ideal getaway for observing the local wildlife, hiking or kayaking through its lagoons. Faro’s beaches, fringed by unspoilt dunes, provide the perfect backdrop for relaxing or dipping your toes in the water.

Dominican Republic

In April, the Dominican Republic is an ideal destination for a stress-free holiday. There’s no hurricane season in sight: no rain, no precipitation, just guaranteed blue skies and a tropical atmosphere for perfect days out! Easily reach four destinations across the country: Punta Cana, Samaná, La Romana and Puerto Plata, with direct flights from Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax and other cities in Eastern Canada… for a holiday that starts off on the right foot.

Punta Cana seduces with its white sandy beaches along the Caribbean Sea and luxury resorts. In Samaná, let yourself be charmed by the wilderness. La Romana, meanwhile, offers a more relaxed atmosphere, ideal for a family getaway. Finally, Puerto Plata awaits you with its mix of surf-perfect beaches and mountains, thanks in particular to the cable car that takes you to Mount Isabel de Torres.

Whether you opt for an all-inclusive for a budget family holiday or a top-of-the-range resort, you’re bound to find something to suit you in the Dominican sunshine at this time of year.
