London’s Royal Tour: Top 4 Stops

Our author lived in the British capital for six years, is mildly obsessed with the royal family and has previously worked at Buckingham Palace. He leads us on London’s royal tour, hot on the heels of Prince Harry and Meghan’s hoopla-inducing May wedding.

“I was so passionate about the royal family I knew what the Queen had for breakfast, what weekend she went to Scotland, everything. I was the strange French Canadian who knew more about royal history than my British colleagues.”

1. Buckingham Palace

Make a royal beeline for Buckingham Palace. Peek behind the gilded gates to see if the Queen is in
residence—if the Royal Standard flag is flying above the palace, hold on to your tiara because that means
she is.

2. St-Jame’s Park, a Royal Destination

Take a royal walk in St. James’s Park, one of the city’s eight royal parks and amazing stops along London’s royal tour. Keep an eye out for the park’s resident pelicans, Louis, Vaclav and Gargi, catching fish from the lake or basking on their favourite rocks.

3. Westminster Abbey

Walk down the royal aisle at Westminster Abbey and relive fairy-tale weddings… 16 royal weddings, to be exact. Most recently, that of Prince William and Kate in April 2011, following a tradition that goes back 900 years.

4. Get a Royal Trim on London’s Royal Tour

Get a royal trim and shave at Truefitt & Hill, where men become gentlemen. The world’s oldest barbershop, it has groomed many a member of the British royal family since George III.
