Have you ever found yourself scrolling through deals for solo travel deals in the Sun, frustrated that no one can join you? Sometimes when you need a holiday, you need a holiday now… and it’s not always easy to find someone with the same availability or interests. With Transat’s Solo Collection, this dilemma is a thing of the past. Participating hotels welcome solo travellers with open arms, no single supplement fees and even a few extra perks! I recently had the opportunity to experience this for myself at the Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort Spa and Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Transat’s Solo travel packages

Did you know that most all-inclusive resorts price their rooms based on double occupancy? As a result, it’s often more expensive for solo travellers to book such a trip. But with Transat’s Solo Collection, you can enjoy a relaxing holiday without paying the dreaded single supplement. Whether you dream of Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Costa Rica, El Salvador or Panama, this collection has you covered. Which brings me to the age-old question:

Can I go to an all-inclusive by myself on a solo trip?

Put simply, abso-lutely. Of the 47 properties in the collection, some not only allow solo travellers to pay only their share, but also create opportunities to meet like-minded adventurers. In high season, for example, a table at the buffet is reserved for solo travellers, and Transat’s on-site team organises a happy hour. It’s a great way to travel alone without feeling lonely!

Booking one of these fabulous properties also comes with exclusive benefits for solo travellers:

  • Free room service
  • Up to 25% off at the spa
  • A welcome basket upon arrival in your room
  • Free Wi-Fi

Holidays for one: my week of rest and relaxation

Is a week of just relaxing alone too much?

That depends on your personality, of course. But just as a week at an all-inclusive resort flies by when you’re with your partner, family or friends, a solo holiday can feel like it’s gone in a flash. Make new friends, step out of your comfort zone… or don’t! It’s your holiday – you call the shots.

Settle into one of the many lounge chairs by the pool, claim a palapa on the beach or relax on your private balcony. Pair a good book with a cocktail, take a deep breath and let go. Okay, go ahead and play Candy Crush or scroll TikTok for an hour if you have to. No judgement here, you’re flying solo!

Personally, I used the time to reflect on my personal and professional life, free from distractions. It was the perfect excuse to dive into journaling and set my intentions for the year ahead.

If introspection isn’t your thing, these resorts have plenty of exciting activities to keep you busy. When booking, you can even prioritise properties that offer activities that match your interests:

  • Crafts, cooking, mixology or dance classes
  • Excursions to the nearby jungle or city for a taste of culture
  • Fun amenities such as bowling alleys or stunning golf courses
  • High-adrenaline activities and water sports
  • Luxurious spa treatments

With so many options, boredom is out of the question – especially when silence and downtime make you antsy.

I certainly didn’t have time to be bored. Is it too cliché to say that the week flew by? As an introvert, I loved the chance to spend time alone, but I also met some like-minded travellers who became fantastic meal companions. And let’s not forget the dance party in the resort’s nightclub… such a fun memory!

Honestly, I loved the freedom of not having to answer to anyone and being able to follow my whims. Between walking the dog, juggling work commitments and maintaining a social life back home, it’s not always easy to carve out “me” time. But here it was effortless. and maintaining a social life back home, it’s not always easy to carve out ‘me’ time. But here it was effortless.

All-inclusive singles vacation at Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort Spa and Casino in the Dominican Republic

Perfect for solo travellers who want to get away from it all – especially parents – Lopesan Costa Bavaro is a sprawling adults-only resort on Bávaro Beach.

The suite I stayed in was beautifully decorated with a modern, contemporary feel. It was located on an upper floor by the pool, with a wonderful tropical view from my private balcony – where I enjoyed my morning coffee in complete tranquillity.

The solo traveller suites at Lopesan Costa Bavaro are 55 square metres and come with a king-size bed, a living area with a sofa and a flat-screen satellite TV.

My highlights? The infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The ultra-quiet and rejuvenating spa. The breathtaking views from the dining room at El Asador. The colourful modern decor throughout the property – especially in the restaurants. Oh, and the affogato from the Bavaro coffee bar!
